The short version
- Workbench runs on your Mac. Your projects, conversations, plans, documents, terminal sessions and settings are stored on your Mac. Workbench does not automatically upload this content to Req2Code. We receive content you choose to send us, for example in a support email.
- The Workbench app has no analytics, advertising or tracking, and does not send crash reports automatically.
- AI features use the provider tools you install and sign in to yourself: Codex, Claude Code and Grok. When you use them, your prompts, the files you share and the tools’ output go to that provider under your account and their privacy terms. Authentication is handled through your provider tool’s configured sign-in method. Sensitive information you include in conversations, attachments or terminal output may be stored with that content.
Network connections
The table describes connections used by Workbench’s built-in features. Agents, terminal commands and tools you configure can also access the network, including services not listed here.
| Destination | When | What is sent |
|---|---|---|
| Your AI provider, through its own command-line tool | When you run a conversation or agent | Whatever you and the agent send through that tool. Workbench starts the tool; the tool makes the connection. |
| Polar (api.polar.sh), our payment and licence provider | When you activate, check or deactivate Workbench Pro, and about once a day while Pro is active | Your licence key; a random installation identifier generated by Workbench; and, when you activate, your Mac’s name (from System Settings → General → Sharing), so you can recognise the device in the customer portal. No project content. |
| Polar checkout and customer portal (in your browser) | When you choose to buy Pro or manage your purchase | Whatever you enter on Polar’s pages. Polar is the merchant of record and processes payment. |
| Our update feed (downloads.req2code.com) | When Workbench checks for updates, automatically or when you choose Check for Updates | A standard web request (IP address, app version in the request). Updates are signed and verified on your Mac. |
| GitHub, npm and Homebrew public APIs | Periodically, to tell you when a newer version of your installed provider tools is available | A request for the public version information. No account or project information. |
| Image hosts referenced in Markdown you open | When a document you view contains a remote image | A web request for that image, with no cookies or credentials. |
| Public content delivery networks (cdnjs, jsDelivr, esm.sh, unpkg, Google Fonts, Bunny Fonts) | When an agent-generated visualisation you open uses a library or font | Requests for permitted assets from these hosts. The visualisation viewer blocks direct API connections and limits external resources to its allowed hosts. |
Information on your Mac
- Workbench stores its data in
~/Library/Application Support/Workbenchand in the project folders you choose. - Conversation attachments and screenshots you attach may be retained with the conversation. Saved voice notes are audio files in your project’s
audio recordingsfolder; recording a note does not automatically send it to an AI provider. - It keeps your Pro licence key in the macOS Keychain on this device only.
- Dictation is processed on your Mac by Apple’s speech recognition.
- Some summaries and suggestions use Apple Intelligence on your device when it is available and enabled for your Mac and configuration.
- Diagnostics: Workbench doesn’t send crash reports or diagnostics to us automatically. If something goes wrong, you can choose to email a crash report to support@req2code.com. Review it before you send it.
Purchases
Polar (Polar Software Inc.) is the merchant of record for Workbench Pro. It processes your payment details, billing address and tax information under its own privacy policy. We receive from Polar the details needed to manage your licence and support you: your name, email, purchase and licence status.
Purchase and licence retention
We retain purchase and licence information needed to administer your subscription, manage activations and provide purchase support. After a subscription ends, relevant records may still be needed to handle refunds or disputes and meet accounting, tax or other legal obligations. We retain those records for those purposes and delete or anonymise information when it is no longer needed. The 12-month enquiry policy below does not set the retention period for transaction records. Polar retains information it holds under its own privacy policy.
Support email
If you contact support@req2code.com, we handle your message as described in the website privacy notice (Microsoft 365 mailbox; ordinary enquiries deleted 12 months after they close).
Your choices
- You can use Workbench Free without a Pro purchase or licence activation. Provider tools and other network-enabled features still make the connections described above.
- You can turn off automatic update checks in Workbench Settings.
- Archiving and deleting projects: archiving keeps a project and its history. To remove an archived project’s Workbench records, use Delete Permanently and review the confirmation. This does not delete the project folder, saved voice recordings or exports in that folder. Local backups and copies held by providers are separate.
- Deleting Workbench and its data: quit Workbench, move it from Applications to the Trash, and delete the folder
~/Library/Application Support/Workbench. If you used Pro, deactivate the Mac first (or in the Polar customer portal), then remove the Keychain item whose name starts withcom.req2code.workbench.licensingusing Keychain Access. Files Workbench saved in your project folders stay there until you delete them. Provider tools and their data are separate; see each provider’s documentation. - Requests about personal data we hold (from purchases or support): privacy@req2code.com. Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object, and to complain to a regulator.
Changes
We’ll update this notice when Workbench’s data handling changes and show the date above.
